Abstract
The chromosome number and chromosome morphology of three samples of Tilapia nilotica Linne obtained from Laguna Lake were studied. Caudal fin borders were used as the source of chromosomes. The types of chromosomes were designated following Levan at al. (1964). The study revealed that the diploid chromosome number of T. nilotica was 44 which confirmed previous reports. The chromosomes appeared thick and rod-shaped wherein 10-11 have terminal centromeres, 9-10 have subterminal centromeres, 1-2 have median centromeres and 1 has submedian centromere.
