Abstract
Soil samples from selected areas in the Philippines, namely: Palawan, (El Nido, 5km from town proper en route to Taytay, along Hillside of road facing Bacuit Bay), Bukidnon Province (Mt. Musuan peak), North Cotabato Province (Mt. Apo), Quezon Province (Mt. Banahaw) and Laguna Province (Molawin Creek. Mt. Maquiling, In , Los Banos) were investigated for the presence of Mucorales species,. The soil samples were taken to the laboratory and aseptically submerged in distilled water in a vial. A loopful of the suspension was inoculated on PDA plates. To isolate and deter-mine it cultural characteristics, a loopful of each colony was inoculated on PDA slants. For morphological characterization, the slide culture technique was performed. Of the 5 areas stud-ied, Mucorales are found only in Mt. Banahaw, and is represented by two species of Mucor, namely: Mucor praini Chodat & Nechitch and M. subtilissimus Oudemans. These Mucor species represent new records for the Philippines. Other non-Mucorales genera were also isolated and these are Alternaria, Asper-callus. Fusarium. Penicillum and Trichoderma.
