Abstract

The study was undertaken to develop a comprehensive set of soil information for the province of Batangas that can serve as a basis for predicting soil behavior and identifying best uses. Eight soil series were identified as the land mapping units and were described in terms of land qualities and characteristics. Land utilization types in the study area were appraised through interview with farmers. Land use requirements of identified land utilization types were matched with the land qualities and characteristics of the identified land mapping units, which resulted to physical land suitability classification. Results of suitability analysis were used to generate suitability maps through GIS. Basic information from soil survey report was used in the development of a simplified key to soil series identification. Eventually, summarized information on major soil series was incorporated in the guidebook.
