Abstract
Cross sections of normal and mottled leaves of two varie-ties of rice, Taichung Native 1 (TN!) end Binolayangon 791 were preDarei. The charactorist1c responses to viral infection of time cells of the TN1 variety was hypotrophy ( decrease in cell size ) and hypoplasy ( decrease in cell number ). Also, there was reduction in mesophyll cell layers. On the contrary, the Binnlayengon 791 variety exhibited hypertrophy ( increase in cell size ) end hyperplesy ( increase in cell number ). Also, there was decrease in number of mesophyll cell layers. Thus, the two varieties displayed different responses to viral infection.
