Abstract

A comparative vegetative study of two related species of Rhaphidophera, R. celatocaulis Alderwwer. and R. pinnata (L) Scott, showed that they differs primarily in the features of the juvenile leaves and the patiole. The former has ovate leaves and the patiole deeply grooved and persistently sheated to maturity. The latter has ovate-lanceolate leaves and shallowly grooved, partially sheathed and the sheath not persistent to maturity. All other features such as stomatal type, gross morphology of mature leaf, stem and root anatomy are similar.
