Abstract
Karyograms made from root tip cells with well-spread somatic chromosomes were studied to determine and describe chromosome number and morphology. The nomenclature for centromeric position followed that of Levan, et al. (1964). Majority of the somatic cells investigated showed 2n-28, however variations such as 2n-20, 32, and 36 were also found. Karyotype study revealed three groups: chromosomes with (1) median centromere, (2) submedian centromere, and, (3) subterminal centromere. One of the submedianly constricted chromosomes exhibited a secondary constructon which was attached to the nucleolus.
