Abstract
Lycosa pseudoannulata, a wolf spider, is one of the predaceous arthropods in corn ecosystems in the Philippines. As a biological agent, it preys on many insect pests. Morphologically, L. pseudoannulata was differentiated from other spider species mainly through the male and female genitalia and its eye arrangement - first row anterior eyes and anterior lateral eyes, second row posterior median eyes and third row posterior lateral eyes, anterior row nearly straight whereas posterior row strongly recurved. Spermatocytial cells of male penultimates fixed in fresh Canoy's fluid and stained with lacto-aceto-orcein revealed the following cellular and chromosomal features of Le pseudpannulatan meiotic index, 13.9%, nucleoplasmic index, 36% three differentiation stages of leptonema, and idiogram of pachytene chromosomes ranged from 0.04 to 0. 128 (autosomes, 0.050 to 0.128 while sex chromosomes, X1=0.04 and X2=0,04, and nucleolar organizer, (chromosome no. 6). 0.060. At diakinesis, the diploid chromosome complement of male Lu pseudoannulata was 2n=26 (12 IIA + X1X2). It was heterogametic or capable of yielding two sperm cells, 6 IIA
- X1 and 6 IIA + X2-
