Abstract
To study in vitro responses of three strains of garlic (Batangas, Cabuyao and Ilocos), steri-lization procedure and culture medium needed for callus induction were determined. Results showed that exposure to 10% chlorox for 5 minutes were found to be effective for sterilization procedure. Different strains showed different responses due to genetic make-up. Compared to leaf and shoot tip, stem base formed callus earlier in media con-taining 2,4-D and kinetin. Results also showed that the fresh weight of callus was relatively higher in lower concentrations than in higher concentrations of 2,4-D.
