Abstract
This study evaluated the physico-chemical attributes of Tetragonula biroi Friese bee propolis from eight different locations in Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon Province. The physico-chemical analyses revealed that the %fry extract of the EEP samples ranged from 0.3579% to 0.7345%, the oxidizing time ranged from 35s to 59s, the amount of flavonoids in %quercetin ranged from 0.0705% to 0.2129, and the percentage of phenolics ranged from 2.097% to 2.497%. All EEP samples exhibited positive results for the solubility and homogeneity tests in lead (II) acetate and NaOH, which confirms the presence of tannins and phenolics, respectively. Peaks in the IR spectra of all samples showed that the functional groups present in the compounds correspond to the functional groups found in the structures of flavonoids and polyphenolics, which can indicate the presence of flavonoids and polyphenolics in the samples. In conclusion, results of the physico-chemical and FT-IR analyses confirm the presence of polyphenolics and flavonoids in the PEP samples. Keywords: Propolis.
