Abstract

The major practice was conducted in the Vegetable Crops Division Experimental Production and Demonstration Area at the University of the Philippines Los Baños on March to June of 2009. Different cultural practices involved in the production of pole sitao such as mulching using silver reflective plastic mulch, fence type trellising, vine training, weeding by chemical, cultural, manual, fertilizer application, pest management, irrigation using spray type perforated pipeline, sowing using direct seeding method, thinning, harvesting, and sorting were observed and performed. Insect pests controlled were leafminers, cutworms, podborers, aphids, and leafhoppers while the diseases controlled were bean rust, whitemold, and leafspot.The student was also exposed in the cultural practices involved in the production of other vegetable crops such as onion, pakchoi, bitter gourd, cucumber, corn, pechay, and pepper.
