Abstract
From December 2013 to February 2014, a total of 100 cobb day-old-chicks were used and divided into two groups to determine the growth performance and economics of a commercial broiler chicken raised under organic production system. They were raised in the Native Animal Farm, University of the Philippines Los Baños. The birds were raised under organic production system for 78 days. Each bird was given house and range areas of 0.33 m2 and 7.1 m2, respectively. After 78 days, the average body weight, feed consumption and FCR per bird were 0.77±0,03 kg, 4.70±0.01 and 6.57±0.19, respectively. The feed cost to produce a kilo weight was Php 138.81. The dressing percentage with and without giblets were 71.10±3.49% and 65.50±2.07% Cut up parts were as follows 17.27±1,44% wings, 24.85±4.25% back with neck, 30.99±1.13% legs, 26.89±1.70% breast. The most dominant species before and after grazing on Paddocks 1 and 8 were Borreria laevis and Arachis pintoi. The available dry matter yield in a dry matter basis before and after grazing are 31.45±4.08 and 37.25±4.08, respectively.
