Abstract

The major farm practice was conducted on May 1, 2011 to May 30, 2011 in Luz Farms Inc., located in Barangay Pinagsibaan, Rosario, Batangas. The major farm practice aims to apply and practice the theoretical knowledge acquired by the student inside the University. LFI is a commercial breeder farm that has 1093 sow level. Aside from producing replacement stocks for other commercial farms, the farm also produces market hogs for grow-out farms. Because of its nature as breeder farm, it produces its own replacement stocks. The student was able to participate in all production management activities in every section of the farm from farrowing section to the nursery section, to the growing-finishing section, to the performance testing unit and to the breeding section. The student also was able to participate to the routine activities of the artificial insemination laboratory activities such as semen collection, semen evaluation, semen processing, artificial insemination, and record keeping. A technical analysis was also conducted to assess the farm's strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to be able to give a recommendation that will improve the farm's performance and avoid unnecessary problems that may occur in the future.
