Abstract

To determine relationship between temperature, RH, THI and egg production performance of Philippine Mallard duck (PMD) in slatted floor elevated housing system, an on-farm research was conducted from December 2011 to May 2012. Commercial temperature-RH data logger was used. Descriptive and correlation analyses were used. Hourly average temperature were observed to be higher from 6:00h to 16:00h while RH was higher from 17:00h to 5:00h which had a noticeable inverse relationship to RH. The inflection and deflection points of temperature and relative humidity happened simultaneously at 6:00h. THI is under danger classification from 9:00h to 16:00h and under emergency from 7:00h to 19:00h for the months of April and May. Data showed that, significant correlations exist between with shell thickness and temperature (r=-.73), and shell thickness and THI (r=-.76). Utilization of measures to alleviate heat stress are suggested from 9:00h to 16:00h where THI values are under danger classification and from 7:00h to 19:00h where it is under emergency classification for the months of April and May to avoid negative effects to hen-day egg production.
