Abstract

Rodriguez, Ann Catherine Rodriguez, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines at Los Banos, April 2006. Determination Of Levels Of Copper (H) Ions In Flood Plain Soils Of Rizal, Nueva Ecija And General Trias, Cavite Using Sodium Diethyldithiocarbamate.

Adviser: Dr. Myrna S. Rodriguez

Levels of Copper (II) ions were determined from the soils samples obtained in Rizal, Nueva Ecija and General Trias, Cavite. The soil samples were subjected to citrate — EDTA extraction to obtain the exchangeable copper in the soil. The filtrate of the said extraction was saved for the solvent extraction with Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate.

Solvent extraction was done. first, by adding citrate — EDTA solution to the filtrate and then Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate was added. The solution was extracted with chloroform. The organic layer was saved for spectroscopic analysis. The organic layer obtained is yellowish brown in color.

The metal concentrations of the soil sample were calculated. The Cavite soils have a range of 1.5 to 3.9 ppm while Nueva Ecija soils have a range of 1.4 to 3.0 ppm.
