Abstract

The swine industry plays a key role to the economy of the Philippines as it is the second agricultural commodity with the highest contribution next to corn. An increasing trend can further be observed for the demand of pork locally, thus, the need to provide an adequate supply, which has caused more people to engage in swine farming as it is a high income generating business. It would then be important to take note of different performance indices and industry status of swine to determine possible factors that have majorly affected the industry over time. Trends of the production performance was assessed and analyzed over time. Industry performance was then collected from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and analyzed for trends. Analysis have led the researcher to arrive to the conclusion that swine industry performance has constantly been improving from 2010 to 2019, however, there are certain parameters that showed sudden rises and drops in data. To resolve this, it recommended to use and analyze industry and performance data from a provincial or regional level.
