Abstract

Two experiments were conducted at the UPCA, Central Experiment Station in 1969 to evaluate some herbicides for pre-emergence weed control in grain sorghum. Seven herbicides were tried during the wet season and six during the dry season trial.

During the wet season trial, weeds significantly reduced grain yield. Among the herbicide treatments, Ramrod at 4 and 5 kg/Ha; BAS 2691 at 3, 4, and 5 kg/Ha; BAS 2901 at 3, 4, 5, and 6 kg/Ha and BAS 3540 at 2 and 3 kg per hectare gave yields statistically compar- able to that of handweeded plots. In the dry season experiment, the weeds did not significantly reduce grain yield. Any statistical difference between the yield from the handweeded plots and that from the chemically treated plots during the dry season, is attributed to crop injury.
