Abstract

The chlorophyll content of rice plants (var. IR-22) which were deficient in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and iron was determined using spectrophotometer. The study indicates that deficiency in essential mineral element may not be manifested immediately since the reduction in the chlorophyll content was not enough to cause a change in color of the leaves. Statistical analysis showed that absence of any of the essential elements under consideration significantly reduced the chlorophyll content of the rice leaves.
