Abstract
A compound of calamansi with potential insecticidal activity was isolated by solvent extraction and column chromatography. No-choice assay of the isolate against third-instar Ostrinia furnacalis larvae showed a maximum of 10% antifeedant index at 2.5 mg per gram of insect diet. Growth inhibition index of the isolate, however, was not significantly different compared to that of the solvent and negative control. Three days after treatment, at the same concentration, the isolate exhibited corrected percent mortality three times smaller than what was observed for tebufenozide. Ehrlich's test, together with infrared (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, suggest that the isolated compound was a limonoid.
