Abstract

Solving word problems in Mathematics often poses a challenge for many students, even to those who generally perform well in the subject. In terms of teaching, it is evident that students become more engaged when they see visuals while lessons are being presented. Videos made to be visually appealing can help increase students' performance, attention, interest and engagement levels, and learning. The general objective of this study is to develop video-based learning materials to facilitate a better understanding of solving word problems in seventh-grade Mathematics. Specifically, this study aims to: (1) identify specific word problems for the creation of the video-based learning material; (2) develop a video-based learning material for selected word problems in Mathematics; and (3) evaluate the content, usability, and design of the video-based learning materials developed. The video-based learning materials were evaluated based on the following criteria: (1) content, (2) usefulness, (3) ease of learning, (4) satisfaction, (5) instructional design, and 6) technical design. Based on the evaluation, the video-based learning materials obtained a satisfactory rating for design, content, and usability. Furthermore, all the respondents recommended that video-based learning materials be used in the classroom.
