Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the effect of land use and landscape position on the soil physical and chemical properties of hilly lands in Quirino Province. ArcMap was used to determine the landscape positions namely convex creep slope, transportational midslope, fall face, colluvial footslope and alluvial toeslope. Crop rotation, intercropping, and monocropping land use was known during the interview with the farmers. The soil from each site were sampledat depths of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm. Soil physical and chemical analysis showed higher soil moisture content, soil consistency, soil organic matter content, and soil available phosphorus but lowest soil exchangeable cations from the clayey soil at the colluvial footslope and monocropping practice while lower results of the above mentioned parameters and highest soil exchangeable cations were obtained from the sandy soils at the alluvial toeslope and intercropping practice. Clayey soil samples from the convex creep slope position and at the transportational midslope, both with crop rotation and intercropping practice, showed the highest cation exchange capacity (CEC) while the lowest CEC was recorded from the sandy soil at the alluvial toeslope with intercropping practice.
