Abstract

The practicum was conducted at Universal Robina Corporation, Calamba City, Laguna from April to May 2013. Universal Robina Corporation Calamba Plant, which is under the umbrella corporation JG Summit Holdings, Inc., has two manufacturing plants, Calamba 1 and Calamba 2, producing beverage products and snacks and confectioneries, respectively. The student was assigned at the Calamba 1 Plant or the Beverage plant, to assist and learn from the following: (a) PET 1 Laboratory, (b) PET 2 Laboratory, (c) Acceptance Laboratory, (d) RFD Laboratory, and (e) Microbiology Laboratory. She was tasked to perform some of the duties of a quality assurance analyst, under the supervision of the Quality Assurance department of the manufacturing plant. Knowledge on the physico-chemical analysis and sensory evaluation of products such as C2, Refresh Flavored Drink and Refresh Purified Water were acquired during the conduct of the practicum. Hands-on experience of the responsibilities of a quality assurance analyst as well as an overview of the different company audits done such as GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) were gained. More importantly, practicality, ethics, discipline, punctuality, accountability, openness for correction, and respect for authority were learned during the plant practice.
