Abstract

The practicum was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory, Quality Assurance Division, Wyeth Philippines Inc. - Nestle Inc., a milk manufacturing and distribution company located at Canlubang Industrial Estate, Canlubang, Calamba City Laguna, from April 15 to May 15, 2013. Assessment of the work efficiency of the analysts in the laboratory was given as the major task during the training. This task mainly focused on evaluating the working behavior of the analysts using the Time and Motion Study, proposed as a Total Quality Management procedure by the Lean Laboratory System Management of the company. This method utilized a spaghetti diagram scheme with time as a corresponding variable. Various analysis areas were studied namely: Receiving Area/ Systems Monitoring, Media Preparation, Raw Materials Testing, In-Process Testing, Pre-Enrichment Testing, Finished Product Testing, Environmental Monitoring, Reading, Recording, Reporting and Follow-Up Testing. Observations and a little practical hands-on were made on these areas. Training in conformance to protocols such as cGMP and HACCP was employed inside the laboratory. The practicum stay at Wyeth Philippines Inc. - Nestle Inc. became an avenue to explore more about the industrial professional aspects, more importantly in developing interpersonal skills.
