Abstract

This paper serves as documentation of the field practice conducted at UBM Corporation o April 15 to May 31, 2007. UBM Corporation is a fruits and vegetables dealership company with its main packing house located at 833 Sheridan St., Brgy. Buayang-Bato, Mandaluyong CIty. UBM Corporation is owned and operated by the Uysipuo family. The company deals fruits and vegetable products to supermarkets and malls in the NCR area and in other adjacent provinces such as Laguna, Batangas, Cavite and Bulacan. Some operations and facilities of the packinghouse were also evaluated and recommendations for improvement were presented. Loss assessments of some selected commodities were also done during the conduct of the study. The selected commodities were eggplant, green mango, native tomato, and swamp cabbage. The material flow for each of these commodities were observed and presented. A profile of rejects was also created for each of the selected commodity. Recommendations for reducing the losses for the selected commodities were made and presented. The field practice pointed to the application of academic subjects learned in class into real life engineering situation. The trainee also learned the values such as resourcefulness, responsibility, initiative, and camaraderie with the workers and staff.
