Abstract

The major productive was conducted at TJ Enterprises Inc. swine farm located at Brgy. Timbao, Biñan, Laguna from April 21 to May 21, 2008. This enables the student to apply the knowledge gained from the University and have hands-on experience on actual farm operations. The farm is a 600-sow level farrow to finish enterprise. The student participated in the daily activities of the farm such as heat detection, semen collection, semen evaluation and processing, artificial insemination, pregnancy and diagnosis, assisting farrowing sows, manual extraction, cutting of needle teeth and umbilical cord, ear notching, ear tattooing, tail docking, castration, assisting in the medication and vaccination, feeding of animals, cleaning and disinfecting of pens, and record keeping. At the end of the farm practice, the student was able to evaluate and analyze the various management practices implemented in the farm and relate these with theoretical knowledge. Also, the student was able to formulate regarding the problems encountered during her stay in the farm.
