Abstract
A major practice on production and management of pummelo (Citrus grandis (L) Osbeck) was conducted at the Department of Agriculture Research Outreach Station Daet in Barangay Calasgasan, Daet, Camarines Norte from from April 22, 2013 to May 31, 2013. Out of 23.5 hectares occupied by DA-ROS, only 4.04 hectares are used for pummelo production 2.7 hectares are planted with 13 year old and younger pummelo trees while the remaining 1.34 hectares consists of older trees about 13 year old and above. Cleft grafting is used in propagating pummelo at DA-ROS wherein calamandarin is used as rootstock and pink pummelo ?Magallanes? variety as scion. Grafted seedlings were ready for planting 9 months or older after the grafting operation. Watering was done on a regular basis especially during dry months both for newly grafted seedlings and older seedlings. Pruning is done once a year during summer or whenever necessary while pesticide spraying was done whenever the need arises. Weeding and fertilizer management were not practiced in the the farm because of lack of fund. Majority of the fruits were harvested by wholesalers. They harvest pummelo in the morning around 9-10 and immediately transport them for distribution to retailers in the markets and nearby towns. Sorting and grading were the only postharvest practice being done in farm. For the cost and return analysis of the farm for seedling production, the total cost was Php 33,805 inclusive of the cost in farm tools and equipment, materials and supplies and labor cost. The total gross return was Php 26,500 which was from the sale of seedlings. The net return of the farm for seedling production was - Php 7,305. On the otherhand, for fruit production the total cost for fruit production was Php 10,650 inclusive of the cost in farm tools and equipment, materials and supplies and labor cost. The total gross return was Php 32,316 which was from the sale of fruits. The net return of the farm for fruit production was Php 21,666.
