Abstract

The standard maintenance implemented by world-class golf courses is based from the United States Golf Association (USGA) from which the clients receive the best functional and aesthetic results expected from the turf. From this major practice, it is mainly aimed to discuss the reasons behind the turfgrass maintenance practices performed at the site, familiarize all tools and equipment used, analyze simple costs and experience supervisory skills on a top level of confidence. The practice that occurred from April to May of 2012 is conducted at a 27-hole course of Sta. Elena Golf Club in Bo. Malitlit, Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where all observed resources and practices are documented and evaluated based on their theoretical validity. Tools and equipment used are brought all together on a simple catalogue. For cost analysis, tentative amounts of operating expenses from fuel, depreciation, fertilizers/chemicals, sand consumption and manpower had been worked out from basic data derived from the site. On an average monthly maintenance costing to Php 6,791,339.87, it turned out that more than Php 8.30 per unit area is spent for maintaining an estimated area of 81.8624 hectare of turf at the site. Several factors that adversely affect the routines are also noted and given with appropriate recommendations, as discussions of lessons that gained from the major practice based from supervisorial skills are also given with foremost concern.
