Abstract

The major practice was conducted from April 2014 to July 2014 at Nemesio B. Mendiola Hall(NBMH) vicinity,University of the Philippines Los Baños, College, Laguna. The activityfocused on the landscape maintenance, implementation, and propagation of the native plant Bagawak (Clerodendrum quadriloculare),which is suitable to the landscape of NBMH. The student participated in various maintenance operations employed in the area. Adesign made by Prof. Norma G. Medina was implemented during the major practiceto further improve the landscape. Implementationand maintenance ofthe landscape area in NBMH cost around Php26,741.42for three monthsor Php 10.76 per m2. Propagation of the Clerodendrum quadriloculare was done using shoot tip cuttingand marcotting thatwas observed for 30 days. Shoot tip cuttings wererooted by dipping in 1000 ppmα?Napthalene Acetic Acid for 60 seconds. The averagedays to root of the cuttingswithout hormoneis 24 days, while with ANAA took only 15 days and were more profuse. In propagation using marcotting, 10 branches were used and wereobserved for 30 days. The marcots were notable to produce roots withinthe given time, but actually took 58 days. At the end of the major practice, the student learned that landscape will be properly maintained by having regular workers in the area. Also, propagation of Bagawak using shoot tip cuttings applied with ANAA ismore efficient than marcotting.
