Abstract

The practicum was conducted at Quality Assurance Chemistry Laboratory- Wyeth Nutrition, Canlubang Industrial Estate, Calamba City from April to May 2013 for a total of 152 hours. The company produces various nutritious brands of milk formula. The whole plant practice consisted of laboratory orientation, observations on the daily tests conducted by the laboratory on raw materials, in-process and finished product samples, discussions on the manufacturing process and a tour inside the plant. In the duration of the plant practice, the trainee was able to gain new knowledge on handling sophisticated equipment used by the company. New techniques and skills were also learned from Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). The trainee also became aware of the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) which can be useful when conducting laboratory experiments outside the plant. The practicum also gave an overview on how a manufacturing plant operates. New values that can also be applied when performing future experiments were likewise acquired. The training inside Wyeth Nutrition division has been a great experience to the trainee. It gave her awareness on the works of Food Technologists in the industry and a deeper appreciation on the course was developed.
