Abstract

The farm practice was conducted in a commercial and institutional dairy farm namely; Real Fresh Dairy Farms, Incorporated located at Brgy. Masaya, Bay, Laguna and at the Animal and Dairy Sciences Cluster Dairy Farm, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna from April 19 to May 18, 2010. The former currently maintains 200 heads of dairy animals and processed its milk into various dairy products such as fresh milk, chocomilk, low fat milk and white cheese, while the latter has a herd population of 137 dairy animals and produces fresh milk, chocomilk, yoghurt, ice cream, white cheese and other cheeses depending on the level of milk production and storage capacity of its dairy plant. The farm practice aims to expose the student to different operations needed in a dairy farm and to put into practice the principles in dairy production acquired in the university. The student was able to perform the different routine activities in the dairy farm such as calf rearing, feeding, breeding, recording, milking and milk processing. Common problems in both farms were identified. Solutions and/or recommendations to the said problem were presented.
