Abstract

The plant practice was conducted at Universal Robina Corporation located at Pasig Blvd., Bagong Ilog Pasig City from May 2, 2011 to May 26, 2011 for a total of 150 hours. Universal Robina Corporation is a corporation of integrated businesses which started from 1954 by Mr. John Gokongwei. The training was conducted in the Quality Assurance Department of the URC Flour Division, one of the main business groups of the corporation, wherein the quality assurance and control systems on pasta production line were conducted. Analysis and inspection for the pasta processing line, packaging line, the pasta products and the pasta warehouse as well as the acceptance of raw and packaging materials were performed. The objective of this practical training is to appreciate the field of food technology through actual exposure to food processing industry. Overall, the training has been a meaningful experience that enabled the trainee to apply knowledge and skills learned from the university. The training provided the trainee an opportunity to interact and develop proper attitude towards work and co-workers, and a good preparation for professional practice being a food technologist. Problems encountered during the major practice were identified and appropriate recommendations were made.
