Abstract

The student conducted her practicum at Dole Philippines, Inc. between April and May, 2011. She was designated under the Diversified Products and Packaging Quality Assurance Department, where she was specifically tasked to focus on products under the category Plastic Containers and Flexible Pouches. The student was assigned a major project entitled ―Flange Contaminant Inspection on Dolefil Plastic Cup Products,‖ in which she was able to recommend solutions to reduce the frequency of Fruit Bowl product rejects. Several minor projects were also assigned, like the assessment of the effect of chlorine dipping to the sugar concentration of individually quick-frozen (IQF) pineapples, in which she was able to recommend the proper initial TSS and shell color of pineapples to be used for IQF products. Also, the student made a quality testing procedure outline for packaging adhesives used for fresh-cut products. The practicum allowed the student to learn proper work ethics and social skills and enhance her theoretical knowledge through practical application in the industry.
