Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort (VEPAR) located between the borders of Tiaong in Quezon and San Pablo City in Laguna from April, 2011 to May of 2011. As part of the major practice, the student engaged on three main stages of landscaping namely: design, implementation and maintenance. By applying basic land surveying principles and drafting skills, base mapping was performed at the Escudero?s Big House as a part of the design phase. For the implementation part, the student actively participated in the hardscapes construction in the coffee shop area including the transplanting of African Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis). This implemetation stage approximately costs Php 320, 680.00. Maintenance operations such as watering, pruning/trimming, weeding, mowing, cleaning, fertilizer and pest and disease management were concentrated at the House Museum area. The monthly cost estimate of the maintenance operations at the House Museum with a land area of 700m2 was approximately Php 15, 198.00 or Php 22.00 per square meter. Problems that were encountered during the three phases were identified and given recommended solutions. After the major practice, the student acquired various knowledge and supervisory skills on different landscape operations.
