Abstract

This study aimed to determine the leaf nitrogen content of Romaine lettuce through color image analysis. Lettuce seedlings were grown in deep water culture hydroponic system with nutrient solution of different nitrogen concentrations (0ppm, 170ppm, 300ppm). Three types of digital images of leaf samples (21DAT) were obtained, namely: (a) field digital image, (b) isolated digital image, and (c) scanned digital image. Images were analyzed for their mean RGB color using ImageJ software. Linear regression models were also established by relation total leaf nitrogen content to percentage red, green and blue color. Results showed that red color had the highest R² for all the three digital images of lettuce leaf. Furthermore, scanned digital images had the best results in comparison with other types of digital images used in the study.
