Abstract

The practicum was conducted at Asia Paper Industrial Corporation (APIC) which is located at Governor's Drive Brgy. Cabuco, Trece Martires City, CAvite. The on-job-training had a total of 240 working hours from the 18th of April to the 27th of May2011. APIC is a paper manufacturing company that utilizes recycled waste papers in their production. The products of APIC are quality white and colored bond and book paper.. Consistencies of the pulp slurry at the wet-end section such as the Hydrapulper, Chests2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, Stuffbox, and Headbox were determined. The study showed that there are no significant differences in the consistencies with the variation in basis weights and type of equipment with the use of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in Random Complete Block DEsign (RCBD). It has proven that the processes at the stock preparation and wet-end section are still effective and efficient. Z-test was used to analyze the obtained data for moisture content, thickness, and basis weight of the final product. All of the moisture content values are within the standards set by the Philippine National Standards (PNS) which is 9% water and below. Though the values of thickness and basis weights were comparable to the standards, Z-test sowed that the values were significantly greater than the standard except for the basis weight of the 90GSM.
