Abstract
The field practice was done in NIA Can-asujan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) in Carcar, Cebu. The SRIP has a newly constructed dam that provides water through its gravity-fed service area of 772 hectares. The objective of the field practice was to gain experience and knowledge on the operation and maintenance (O&M) activities in the project. To meet the objectives, the student accomplished the following: actual observation , personal interviews, field measurements and collection of secondary information from the available documents. Two barangays were chosen as representative sites for field observation and interview. It was observed that the dam maintains a certain level of water per month. In cases of low flows, the lateral canals that deliver water to the rice area were closed. The limited supply of water caused the adjustment of activities of farmer both in the rice and vegetable area. It was also observed that no regular maintenance activities were performed during the field practice. The maintenance activities of turnouts and other structures were carried out by farmers living or with farms near those irrigation structures. Although the system has an irrigation efficiency of only 50% on the average, it still helped the farmers increase their crop production.
