Abstract

Nestle Philippines Inc.-Lipa Factory is a manufacturing company located at BAgong Pook, Lipa City Batangas. It processes food products such as Milo, Nestle Breakfast Cereals Nescafe and Coffemate. The target efficiency of the Milo Production Line is 85%. However, due to stoppages of the line, this was not achieved in the year 2010. The average efficiency for 2010 is 81.33%. The major contributor in the efficiency loss of Milo Line B is one of the types of stoppages of the line termed as operational stoppages. This was further examined and it was found out that a large percentage of the operational stoppages is due to sealing problems. Though the use of Industrial Engineering tools, this was investigated to determine the root causes of the problem. Alternative solutions were generated for each root cause. Theses alternatives were evaluated based on criteria to arrive at the best solution to the problem. The recommendations made involve improvements on the training procedure, cleaning standards, machine parts, and maintenance of the production line. The company can have a total savings Php 2, 602,284.73 based on a 5-year projection when recommended solutions are implemented.
