Abstract

McGraw Engineering is a company that provides power transformer products since its establishment in 1989. Having worked within the industry for 20 years, the company offers a complete service - from transformer designing to transformer installation with a guarantee of quality workmanship. Such transformer design is the primary concern of this paper. Generally, this study aimed to discuss the different procedures and practices used in designing the core and winding of a power transformer at McGraw Engineering. Discussion includes the different electrical and mechanical considerations in choosing the type of material and method of construction to build the transformer components as well the different standards referred during transformer designing. Basic design procedures which involve simple estimations and calculations are also presented to obtain the needed design parameter output. Lastly, recommendations for further studies of other areas not covered by this paper are suggested at the end section of the manuscript.
