Abstract
Hydropower utiloizes the potential energy of water and converting it to mechanical energy. A pump could be used as a turbine in a micro-hydro system. The effect of varying the draft tube configurations (conical angle and length) in the performance of a 75x75mm non-self priming centrifugal pump was determined. The conical angles used were Oº, 4º, and 6º while the draft tube lengths used were 457.2mm, 914.4mm and 1,371.6mm. These conical angles and draft tube length combinations were subjected to different pressure settings ranging from 0.28kg/cm². Based from the results, the maximum power of 942.44W can be attained using a configuration of 6º conical angle and 1,371.6mm draft tube length. On the other hand, the highest system efficiency can be achieved using a configuration of 4º conical angle and 457.2mm length. The draft tube configurations have no effect on the performance of the pump-as-turbine at 0.84kg/cm² which was the highest pressure setting used.
