Abstract

An agricultural extension student was sent to Barangay Marinig, Cabuyao, Laguna from April 2012 to May 2012 to perform Major Practice that aimed to increase knowledge in extension. This was done by applying community immersion technique and participatory rural appraisal (PRA) in order to recommend a development plan that seeks to improve the farming practices in the community. The field work was divided into three parts, first was familiarization with the community. Second was the collection of both primary and secondary data. The third part was the community analysis and program planning which involves town folks in conceptualizing the plan through a series of consultations. In the report the author was able to formulate an agricultural development plan for Barangay Marinig, Cabuyao, Laguna to improve livelihood and farming activity of the community. Based in his experience, being a good social communicator is not enough to completely understand the dynamics of agriculture. Technical knowledge, social awareness and application of knowledge are also needed to effectively contribute to the development of one‟s surroundings.
