Abstract

KJ Springs and Plastics Technology, Inc. is a spring and plastic manufacturing company catering services for different companies requiring plastic cases, products, and spring parts. Currently, the company recieved quality claims from their clients, majority of which are plastic related. It was observed that the 2.02% total production reject rate of plastic products was not meeting the target 1% reject rate. These rejects incurred the company Php 1,389,294.70. Four out of 32 products comprised 82.45% of the total reject cost incurred from January to May 2014. For the controllable factors, implementation of the improvements and controls will reduce the compact assembly rejects by 53.69%.Meanwhile, the Hayabusa upper and lower cases rejects during printing-visual inspection will be reduced by 51.53% and 29.06%, respectively. For the plastic injection of Hayabusa upper and lower cases, rejects will be expected to decrease by 65.96% and 71.41%,respectively. Cover pink rejects will be reduced by 52.02%. Strict implementation of preventive maintenance, installation of digital alarm clock in the printing area, development of guidelines for proper mould cleaning, installation of automatic leveler in the pinning machine and use of silicone oil and plate cleaner will address reduce the compact assembly rejects by 17.81%. A reduction of 38.09% and 50.85% will be expected in the Hayabusa upper and lower cases rejects during printing-visual inspection, while 16.92% and 20.44% for the same products during plastic injection. Cover pink rejects will be reduced by 22.39%. An implementation cost of Php. 240,931.25 is needed and annual savings of Php 2,193,725.05 is expected.
