Abstract
Six culms of kawayang tinik (Bambusa blumeana J.A. & J.H. Schultes) were subjected under the compressive strength experiment to determine the effect of nodes along culm length. Node and internode samples from top, middle, and bottom sections were taken with outer diameter of 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 inches, respectively. Kawayang tinik was found to have an average compressive strength of 36.19 MPa. The average compressive strength for node sections was found to be 36.40 MPa and 35.99 MPa for internode sections. A statistical t-test with 95% confidence level showed there is no significant difference between the average compressive strength of node and internode sections. A one-way ANOVA analysis with 95% confidence level showed that there is no significant difference between the compressive strength of the top, middle, and bottom sections. The compressive strength of kawayang tinik was found to exhibit no significant changes along node and internode sections, as well as between the top, middle and bottom sections. Thus, kawayang tinik may be considered to have homogeneous compressive strength throughout the culm length.
