Abstract
Response spectrum is a powerful tool in assessing the peak response of buildings to earthquakes. This study developed a response spectrum for Mandaluyong where SM Light Residences is located. The procedure was based on the Federal Management Emergency Agency 273 (FEMA 273). Soil site class of Mandaluyong was identified to be as site class B. Different parameters such as Fa, Fv, Ss and S1 were then determined to develop the response spectrum. The response spectrum developed using FEMA 273 was then compared to the response spectrum developed using UBC 1997. This study showed that the response spectrum using FEMA 273 yielded a more conservative result than the UBC 1997. The maximum spectral acceleration of response spectrum based on FEMA 273 is 1.65 while in the UBC 1997, the maximum spectral acceleration is 1.0.
