Abstract
Electrocoagulation, an electrochemical treatment method for wastewater, was applied to diary wastewater obtained from the UPLD-DTRI Dairy Processing Plant for the removal of TSS and COD. The electrolysis time of 30 minutes was obtained based on the 80% removal efficiency of TSS for both low and high current settings. The effects of initial pH, current, and electrolysis time on the removal of total suspended solids were determined. Only the electrolysis time on the removal of total suspended solids were determined to be significant. Non-significance of current may be attributed to the low range of current applied. As for pH,it is possiblethat no further pH adjustments are needed. For COD,only the effects of initial pH and current were considered. All factors were considered significant including the interaction between pH and current. The highest TSS reduction efficiency at 30 minutes waws equal to 94% at pH 7 and 0.6 A. The highest reduction efficiency for COD was also obtained at the same pH, current, and time and is equal to 44%. The residual pollutants did not comply with the standards as set by DENR.
