Abstract

Majority of the financial processes transpire within the Accounting and Cashier?s Office. Currently, these two offices fail to meet their daily demand due to presence of non-value adding activities within the system. Thus, research studies concerning the elimination of these activities as well the streamlining of their processing systems are conducted. Improvements pertain to reduced cycle time in processing of documents. However, unmet demand of approximately 6.2 documents per day was still present from the combined efficiency of these two offices after streamlining of processes. Thus, addition of required manpower and layout modifications are performed to further improve the efficiency of the two offices. Results show that the Cashier?s Office needed six additional employees to meet the daily demand while the Accounting office was found to have sufficient manpower. Through systematic layout planning, the layout of the Accounting and Cashier?s Office was modified. For the Accounting Office, the Allotment and Payroll Section are rearranged to facilitate more efficient workflow and move time reductions and to house the EDP section within the same office. For the Cashier?s office, transaction windows are placed adjacent to the wall of the rooms to reduce clutter and document move times and to create additional space within the office. These improvements led to a 3.2% increase in the combined efficiency of the two offices as it fully satisfies the daily demand.
