Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effect of combining mineral admixture, specially Rice Hull Ash (RHA),and chemical admixture, specifically Type A Chemical Admixture or Water Reducing Admixture (WRA),on the corrosion performance of steel reinforced concrete using Impressed Voltage Test (IVT).Four specimens were made for the study, with each specimens having 5 replicates which included steel reinforced concrete with RHA only, with WRA only, with both RHA and WRA,and control. A constant water-cement ratio of 0.5 was employed and the specimens were cured in distilled water so as to prevent early onset of corrosion for a standard curing period of 28 days. From the Impressed Voltage Test performed, alongside with Degree of Corrosion Intensity analysis, it was found out that the least corrosion resistant is the concrete with WRA only due to the acidic nature of the chemical admixture. The most corrosion resistant concrete is the one with the combination of both RHA and WRA due to the acid neutralizing capabolity of lime present in RHA and due to the yielding of lower surface area and pore volume, further improving the durability of the concrete.
