Abstract

This study investigated the effect of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (SCBA) with polycarboxylate Ether-based Superplasticizer (PCE-SP) on workability and compressive strength of concrete. Type-I Portland cement was replaced with 0.5 and 10% od SCBA respectively and a dosage of 2% by weight of cement of superplasticizer mixed with ash. Water-to-cement (w/c) ratios of 0.40,0.45 and 0.50 were used to determine which ratio can give an optimum amount od SCBA with PCE-S with good properties.A total of 45-6 in.by 12. in cylindrical specimens cured for 28 days were made, five from each of the nine mixes. The results show that the highest slump was achieved with 0% SCBA with PCE-SP and w/c ratio of 0.40 while highest compressive strength was achieved with 0%SCBA with PCE-SP and wlc ratio of 0.50. It was also determined that there is no significant effect in compressive strength between 5% and 10% cement replacement but both were significantly different with 0% cement replacement. On the other hand, compressive strength of concrete was significantly affected by both replacement and w/c ratio. In consideration on the usage of SCBA with PCE-SP, cement replacement of up to 5% with wlc ratio of 0.40 was better to use in order to attain good compressive strength. Using the same amount of SCBA with w/c ratio of 0.50, it was determined as the combination that resulted to the highest slump.
