Abstract

Embedded generators significantly affect the primary distribution line loss and the voltage profile of the distribution system depending on the operating characteristics. Improper allocation of the capacity of the embedded generator would not only lead to increase in energy loss, but can also jeopardize the system operation. Determination of the generation capacity involves generation system reliability assessment among the potential size generator. This paper performs load flow simulations in each month using Distribution System Loss (DSL) Segregator on the selected generator size to be injected in the system. From the results of reducing the power loss, a total of 46,113.65 kWh/year can be save, therefore reducing the power purchase requirement providing benefits not only to the electric cooperative but also to the consumer. However, the operating capacities of the embedded generators are limited to certain operating capacities for each month, because the allowable capacity for embedded generator is dependent on the load curve.
