Abstract

Anaerobic digestion is a process in which organic materials such as pig manure are digested to produce biogas. This biogas contains methane which can be used to produce electricity and heat. In the case of Holiday HIlls Stock and Breeding Farm (HHSBF), the farm has 24mx16mx6m covered rectangular lagoon as its digester. However, the digester only has limited storage capacity for biogas which is not suitable for the operation and revenue of HHSBF. One solution to this is to construct an additional digester for the farm. The sizing of the additional digester is based on the required effective volume for the estimated gas production. Specifications of the digester were determined based on the effective volume and land area available on the farm. The structural design was performed using PCA design method. SAP 2000 was used to analyze and check the adequacy of the structure.
