Abstract

Ensuring a dependable supply to meet the demand of the system requires careful analysis of generating units, since it is one of the key components in power systems. Leyte IV electric cooperative plans to utilize the hydropower source in their area and put up a 1 MW hydro power plant to be embedded in their distribution system. Four possible identical generating units' combinations were determined based on the estimated power output of the potential hydro power site. Allocated load for the Feeder 23 was computed. Load model and generated models were constructed for the evaluation of the reliability of every possible generating unit combination using probabilistic reliability indices. In this paper, reliability indices, Loss of load expectation (LOLE) and Loss of energy expectation (LOEE) also known as Expected energy not served (EENS) were used as criteria to decide on which generating unit combination/s is/are reliable. This study was able to present two reliable generating unit combinations: 2 units of 500 kW generator with the lowest annual LOLE of 8547.87 hrs/yr and 8 units of 125 kW generator with the lowest annual EENS of 5088969.55 kWh/yr. This paper could serve as a reference for the decision maker, LEYECO IV on what they would prefer to use based on their preferences.
