Abstract

Six island-bred dogs with diarrhea with initial diagnosis of canine parvoviral infection were investigated. Polymerase chain reaction confirmed that all the six animals were CPV-2 positive. The samples were subjected to nucleotide sequencing of the VP2 gene. Results showed that four of the six strains belong to CPV-2a and two strains to CPV-2b. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that all strains were closely related to CPV isolates from Thailand and China. At present, this is the first study to genetically characterize CPVs from the Philippines.
